St. Cloud was founded in 1909 as a home for Union Army veterans, which is where the name Friendly Soldier City comes from. Today it's growing fast, spreading out from the south shore of East Lake Toho.
Before the veterans, a sugarcane plantation was set up here in 1886 and 1887 and named it after St. Cloud, Minnesota. The Panic of 1893 and the freeze of 1894 and 1895 ended that. In 1909 the Seminole Land and Investment Company bought 35,000 acres for a colony of Civil War veterans, and the city was formally established that April. It incorporated in 1911.
The last two decades brought a different kind of settler. St. Cloud had 35,183 residents in 2010 and 58,964 in 2020, and the 2025 estimate is close to 75,000. That kind of growth means new subdivisions, and those homes come on concrete slabs with builder carpet and tile. Our house flooded when East Lake Toho rose after Ian. Is plank a good replacement?
It is, after the drying is finished. Water removal isn't something we do; our part starts once the rooms are dry. The planks are 100% waterproof, so if water gets in again they won't swell or peel the way laminate does. The installer checks the slab for leftover moisture before anything is ordered.
The builder put carpet in the bedrooms and tile in the main rooms. Can plank replace both?
