Where The Villages Began
Lady Lake is where The Villages started, as a mobile home park called Orange Blossom Gardens in the early 1970s. Today more than half of the town's residents are 65 or older, and many of the older homes here are manufactured, not built on a slab.

Nearby, Water Oak Country Club Estates is a 55+ manufactured home community with about 1,200 home sites on 300 acres, first built in 1980. Lady Lake itself incorporated in 1925, long before any of that, and its population still grew about 15 percent between 2010 and 2020.
A manufactured home floor is wood decking over a frame, not concrete. Vinyl plank goes over it well once the decking is solid. The installer checks for soft spots first, especially at the tub, toilet, sink and water heater, where years of small leaks weaken the floor. A soft spot has to be fixed before any plank goes down, or the new floor will flex there too.
Weather is part of the town's history. Early on February 2, 2007, an EF3 tornado from the Groundhog Day outbreak cut through The Villages and Lady Lake, destroying many mobile homes and killing eight people in the Lady Lake area.
