Eustis sits on the east shore of Lake Eustis, part of the Harris Chain of Lakes, with a downtown that goes back to the 1880s and neighborhoods built over the century since. A lot of older homes here are due for a floor that doesn't mind water.
Eustis incorporated in 1883, and citrus drove the town until the freezes of 1894 to 1895 and 1898 to 1899 killed the groves. The town recovered and called itself the Orange Capital of the World. In late October 2025 a slow-moving storm dropped more than 19 inches of rain on Eustis. Eustis Flooring Questions
Our older house has sheet vinyl on top of wood. Can the planks go over it?
Sometimes. If the sheet vinyl is flat, stuck down tight and only one layer, the planks may be able to go over it. Loose, bubbled or multi-layer flooring has to come up. Some older sheet flooring needs care before removal, so the installer looks at what's there during the free measurement before anything is pulled up.
We had water inside during the October 2025 flooding. What's the order of work?
First, get the wet flooring out and the house dried, subfloor and walls included. Drying is a job for a water mitigation company. We come in after that to rebuild the floor. Once it's dry, book the free measurement. The installer checks the subfloor, and next-day installation is available once your materials arrive.
We have a boat dock and a dog. Which plank should we look at?
Pick the 20-mil wear layer. Nothing thicker is offered, it resists claws and grit, and on SPC it lasts 20+ years. Water from wet feet or a wet dog won't hurt the planks. Sand is the bigger enemy of any floor, so a mat at the lake-side door is worth it.
Can vinyl plank go in an enclosed Florida room or porch?
Usually, if the room is fully enclosed and kept inside the flooring maker's temperature limits. Rooms that aren't air-conditioned can get hotter than the maker allows, and very hot planks can move. The installer checks how the room is closed in and what's under it at the measurement.
Will new floors make the doors stick in an older house?
They can. A new floor adds some height, and older doors often have little clearance to begin with. The installer checks every door, including closets and exterior doors, at the measurement. Doors that won't clear get trimmed at the bottom, and the installer tells you ahead of time which ones.
Does the humidity by the lake make vinyl plank gap or buckle?
A rigid SPC plank hardly moves as the air gets damp or dry, so it holds up better near water than laminate or solid wood. Big temperature swings matter more than damp air. Keep the air conditioning running in summer, and the floor stays put. The installer leaves the expansion gaps the maker calls for at the walls.
