Block Ranches Around the Triplet Lakes
Casselberry started as fern country, and most of its houses are concrete-block ranches from the 1960s and 1970s set around more than 30 lakes and ponds.
In 1925 Gordon Barnett laid out Fern Park Estates, with lots built around ferneries that grew asparagus fern for florists across the United States and Canada. Hibbard Casselberry came from Illinois the next year to sell those lots, then developed his own subdivision, Winter Park Ferneries. He talked residents into incorporating as a tax-free town in 1940. Casselberry got its own post office in 1959 and became a city in 1965. It had 407 residents in 1950 and 28,794 in 2020, about ten miles north of downtown Orlando along US 17-92 and SR 436.
Most of the single-family houses went up from the 1960s through the 1990s, and the most common type is the 1960s or 1970s concrete-block ranch on a slab. Our 1960s Casselberry house has old floor tile under the carpet. Can plank go over it?
If the tile is flat, well bonded and left undisturbed, plank can often float right over it, which avoids breaking it up. If it's loose or has to come out, have it tested for asbestos first, since tile from that era sometimes contains it. The installer looks at it during the free measurement.

We live on one of the lakes and our dog swims every day. Is plank a good idea?
