Lake Mary was a small citrus stop on the railroad between Sanford and Orlando until the 1980s. Then office parks lined up along I-4, Heathrow went up on old celery fields, and the city grew nearly six-fold.
The town took its name from Mary Sundell, wife of the Reverend J.F. Sundell, who settled here in the late 1800s when citrus growers lined the South Florida Railroad. Lake Mary didn't incorporate until August 7, 1973. It had 2,853 residents in 1980 and 16,798 in 2020. The city covers just under ten square miles, with I-4 along its western edge and Lake Mary Boulevard running east to west through the middle.
The jump came with jobs. Our 1990s kitchen tile is cracked in a few spots. Does all of it need to come up?

Our kids' rooms are upstairs. Will plank make the house louder?
